Mobility Scooters
For people who have difficulty walking, or use walking aids such as canes, walkers or walking sticks, electric scooters are great options for getting around. They allow the user to travel with little to no supervision or assistance. There are scooters made for most types of terrain, both indoor and outdoor. There are many dealers and companies that produce these vehicles, so there are plenty to choose from.
Electric wheelchairs run with a rechargeable battery that has to be charged every so often. Some have smaller batteries that have shorter life spans and others, generally outdoor scooters, use larger batteries that can go for longer periods of time. The electric scooters make it so that users don't have to exert much energy such as with manual wheelchairs. These allow for versatility in movement, making it very easy to turn corners. Motorized wheelchairs are generally designed to be controlled through two handle bars and with options to control speed. Some are designed to run on four wheels, and some on three. Generally the smaller ones which are designed to fit into car trunks easily and are meant to be operated indoors have three wheels, and the larger outdoor motor scooters have four wheels. The wheelchairs have different weight limits, usually carrying something from 200-300lbs.
For those who want to ride in style, some types of scooters have changeable colored panels. Others have different rim options for their wheels. Things like armrests can be customized and baskets can be added. Wheels can be upgraded to accommodate different terrain. Most importantly, with the many different styles of electric wheelchairs out there, users can find one that matches their tastes and comfort needs.
Electric wheelchairs can range from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand depending on the brand, build, features, and type. Medical coverage such as private insurance and Medicare sometimes covers parts of the payment for these vehicles. If you have any of these you may want to inquire about it. When purchasing motor scooters be sure to make sure it fits your body and the type of terrain you intend to travel on. Scooters also weigh from about twenty-five pounds to a few hundred pounds. Consider if you will have a car to transport the vehicle in. If it is a compact car you may want to consider a smaller scooter. For the larger scooters, there are vehicle lift attachments that allow users to safely attach them to the outside of a car.
